Authors proposed the scientific basisfor the development of methods for studying of diversity of biotic and environmental systems, with their further implementations in the fields of natural resources management, preservation and restoration of the biotic and landscape diversity in a changing environment.
Fundamental results:the concept of biotic and landscape diversity, that is based on a number of original and inter-related principles (the principle of an alternative variety, minimum and critical levels of diversity of biosystems, cryptic diversity, multiplicity of forms of diversity of landscapes) and explains the mechanisms of maintaining diversity in the changing environment. Scheme of hierarchical levels of the biosphere diversity, which makes the basis of creating an unified inventory for natural diversity and the concept of sustainable development, has been created. Basis for systemic practical activities on assessment, preservation and restoration of the biotic and landscape diversity of Ukraine was created.
Priority results:algorithms for identification of the most valuable by biotic components ecosystems as well as the most sensitive to environmental changes ecosystems and landscapes were developed. The system of practical measures needed for preservation and restoration of natural system diversity is proposed and includes the action plans on control and reduction of the risks of transformation of biota in a changing environment.
New approaches, were proposed, in particular the system of quantitative indicators aiming to assess and compare the biotic and landscape diversity, to compose their maps, to describe, and evaluate the transformations in biota and landscapes as a result of changes in environmental conditions; the indexes of fauna rotation and flora adventization were also developed.
Formulation of new non-traditional tasks:unique biotechnological techniques, that have no analogues today, including methods of artificial breeding of some of the most valuable species of pollinators were proposed.
The results of this work are relevantto the preservation and restoration of the biotic and landscape diversity and the development of the network of nature protected areas and econets, including using the criteria developed by the authors and algorithms for detection of centers of high biotic and landscape diversity.
Creative achievements of the group include 120 monographsand 1121 articles in refereed journals. Total citation index by Scopus is h = 10 (29 articles, sum of citations is 83), h-index by Google Scholar is 70 (449 articles, sum of citations is 3652). There are 5 patents. By the theme, 2 candidate (PhD) and 6 doctor of science theses were defended.
