The purpose of the work is creation and application of new low-cost and efficient technologies of conditioning quality of natural and waste water on the basis of grounded fundamental researches of chemical, physical-chemical, biological and physical processes in the water environment. In the work new rational conditions for the effective application of reagent, electrochemical, sorption, photocatalytic, disinfecting, bio-sorptional, flotoextraction, electromagnetic, coagulation and membrane processes in technologies of natural and waste waters treatment from oil products, surfactants, mineral salts, dyes, suspended matter of various origin, nitrates, phosphates, radionuclides, heavy metal ions are theoretically investigated and practically implemented. New resource and nature conservation technologies for conditioning of natural water are created, tested and implemented at the expense of reducing the collection of fresh water and consumption of chlorine for decontamination.New nanocomposite sorbents based on multilayer carbon tubes, modernized activated carbon, nanosized zirconium oxides, titanium, cuprum, stagnum, and ferrum were scientifically grounded, created and used in water purification. Theoretical foundations of obtaining new coagulants and reagents technologies, application of capillary action materials for hydrophilic water treatment sediments dewatering and utilization was developed.
At the most water-intensive industry (power engineering) the rational water-chemical regime of reversible cooling systems and recirculation of stabilization discharges of water, conditioning of the supplying water of heating networks with the provision of a non-charge mode of their operation and the purification of reverse thermal water from metallic contaminants were developed and implemented.
New approaches to intensification and increase of the efficiency of biochemical treatment of wastewater with high content of biorefined organic substances were proposed; the efficiency of renewable electricity production with simultaneous biochemical wastewater treatment by the application of microbial biofuel cells were theoretically grounded and experimentally confirmed. Technologies for obtaining of new reagents and materials for water purification on the basis of Ukrainian cheap raw materials, waste alumina, titanium, electroplating industries and waste water treatment were proposed. New technologies for dewatering of biological waste water treatment sediment from industrial-urban centers were developed and implemented. Most of the provisions developed by the authors of the theory of water purification are the newest, and the corresponding processes and technological solutions correspond to the world level or exceed the world's analogues. The developed new technologies of natural and waste water purification successfully passed experimental-industrial tests or implementation on 60 enterprises with a general economic effect of 39,527 million hryvnas.
Number of publications on the theme of the work is 1055, including 25 monographs, 23 textbooks, 34 manuals and 274 papers in the journals from citation databases. The general citation index equals 523 (according to the SCOPUS database) and h-index 34. The novelty and competitiveness of the technical decisions were protected with 154 patents. 10 doctoral and 76 Candidate (PhD) theses were defended on this topic.
