The scientific work is devoted to the issues of improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gastric pathology associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). A comprehensive study of clinical manifestations, endoscopic, immunohistochemical parametersof nitric oxide synthase (NOS),of cyclooxygenase 2-nd type (COX-2), the relationships between them, with the leading role in the mechanism of NSAID-gastropathy.

Objective: To study the factors of aggression and resistance of gastric mucosa in NSAID-gastropathy and improve on this basis, treatment and preventive measures for patients with this disease.

Scientific novelty of the results: first to improve the diagnosis and evaluation of treatment of NSAID-gastropathy was conducted determination of the content of nitric oxide in the lining of the stomach in these patients before and after the therapy; first found that the NSAID-gastropathy significantly increased the content of NOS in the gastric mucosa, depending on the degree of selectivity of NSAIDs (p <0,001); first proven efficacy of gastrocytoprotector – rebamipid in treatment of patients with NSAID-gastropathy, reflected a significant decrease in NOS content of the gastric mucosa after the therapy (p <0,001).

The obtained data allowed us to improve and optimize the methods of diagnosis and treatment of this disease, identify and justify the significance of nitric oxide in the development of NSAID-gastropathy.
